Summer
Summer back at home was pretty productive.
Got a week to sleep and rest from finals week, then got to see Egypt for a week with my family.
Back in the US of A, I took Statics at UT Tyler for the first session and two Government classes (Texas and Federal) for the second. Of course I also did yard work, spent time with friends, stayed up late and slept in later.

The tower shines 1 tonight in honor of the NCAA men's swimming and diving championship win. One of the guys in my calculus class who is on the team was featured in the paper yesterday.

California
The California trip with my dad came up pretty quickly over the course of the break. I really enjoyed the opportunity to see my team play in the BCS championship game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, where my dad brought my mom to see Vince Young lead the 'Horns to a championship just a few years ago in what is considered by many to be one of the greatest college football games of all time.
Pictures:
What was one of the most exciting things I ever got to do turned out to be one of the biggest letdowns of my life. Everyone knows what happened and, frankly, it wasn't fair.
I took it really hard. If my memory serves me correctly, that was the first game I saw the Longhorns lose in person.
I just couldn't accept what happened. A loss with McCoy playing the whole game I could have handled, despite my firm belief that we would have won with him. And that belief makes what happened even harder to accept. When McCoy got hit in the perfectly wrong way- that was unbelievably anticlimactic.
It was worse being in the stands because no one really knew what happened. Seeing a 3 instead of a 12 on the back of the quarterback's jersey initially caused confusion, which escalated to concern and then fear for the worst. The overloaded cell phone networks made it difficult to find answers, and rumors of what happened eventually popped up. I remember being erroneously told that it was a fractured rib. I held on to a virtually nonexistent hope that McCoy would come back and save the day. It didn't happen.
I think this article sums up some of the emotion pretty well.
Life isn't fair, but one can't dwell on what could have been or what should have been.
Among other things, character is the attribute of refusing to let bad times affect one's self in a negative way, whether the person had any control over what happened or not. So, on that note, I will be moving on to the rest of the trip.
Yosemite was beautiful. In this picture is El Capitan on the left and centered in the distance is Half Dome. However, the serpentine roads in and around the park were less than enjoyable.
The highlight of Yosemite was me going skiing for the first time.

I ran the turtle slope many times to get my form down.
End of '09
Until recently I've been really lazy (relatively speaking) about pretty much everything so now as I'm getting back on track I'll try to make posts regular again.
In chronological order from the last post:
Studied like crazy before finals week (AKA hell week) and it paid off.
I highly doubt I'll be able to keep it though. This semester is a great deal harder than the first and although I got by fine last semester, I'll have to do things differently if I want to get good grades. I feel overwhelmed at times.
Winter break was very enjoyable as I got to sleep a lot and hang out with my friends while having relatively few responsibilities.
For Christmas, pretty much all of my gifts were clothes. Some were redundant- 2 pairs of gloves and 3 beanies. However, I really can't complain because I didn't ask for anything specific.
