SA
I've had the opportunity to visit my relatives in San Antonio several times so far. It's great how close it is, but at the same time it's weird living closer to SA than Tyler. Anyway, while staying at uncle Danny's house I got to get to know the three dogs better- in particular Zoe and May.

UTEP
I didn't even know that UT El Paso had a D1 football team a few weeks ago.
It's no surprise, though. The final score was 64-7.
It was very hot and sunny outside, so I became pretty jealous of the dude wearing the sombrero before too long.
The shade from clouds was very appreciated.
...But it didn't last very long.
At halftime we got to relax in here, cooled by the biggest/deadliest-looking ceiling fans I've ever seen.
Got a kick out of this one.

Vending Machine Fail
I swear, whoever released the last 4 drinks had ZERO common sense. Sure, there were reasonable odds that the drink wouldn't get stuck, and who knows how many drinks actually made it down the first column and didn't get lodged in the Pillar of Fail, but somehow they decided to take the unnecessary risk instead of doing the

Wednesday 9/9/9
Today was the "Party on the Plaza" event which was originally planned to be held in FRONT of Gregory Gym but since we got some rain in the morning everything got moved inside. There were tons of tables with varying student organizations.

Gone to Texas
There was a huge get-together the night before classes started which was dubbed "Gone to Texas." Before that, there was the fall engineering gathering.
Not just freshmen. Bonus: creepy person.
Some dude dressed up as the school's fictional patron saint, Alec
After that was free t-shirts and food while student groups showed off what they had to offer. One has an ongoing project with a solar-powered vehicle.
In the evening was the big event. There were people everywhere.
I won't get into detail, but at the end of the festivities the tower was lit up.
And then there was free ice cream and a band played with the state capitol in the background.

Speed Friending
Tonight we had a dorm-organized event called "speed friending"- we only got to talk for a minute or two to each person, which really isn't enough time to become friends, but it was cool to meet a bunch of people like that. I only remember a handful of names but now I know two dozen or so faces.
Movin' in
My whole family came down to help me move in at Duren, the newest and arguably nicest on-campus dorm. I met my roommate, "Ernest," who's from San Antonio. He's quiet but pretty cool.
My new address:
4212 Duren
2624 Whitis Avenue
Austin, TX
78705
The traffic was pretty heavy near UT on the main move-in day.
Here's a video of my room:
Here are a few pictures of Duren.

We got me a bike at Target, which has already come in handy. It took a while to tie it to the roof of the minivan.
Here are the Duren bike racks:
This bike is awesome:
I worked out my legs at Gregory Gym today. The weight room had a ton of people in it:
The gym is really nice, and offers a lot of things to do there.
Dedicated cardio room (there are a bunch of cardio machines in the weight room with built-in TVs)
Raquetball courts
Rockclimbing wall
It has a really good aquatic complex too, but I have yet to check it out.
Oh, and of course I had to take this picture:

Orientation and Schedule
UT is going to be a big departure from Gorman. I'll be coming from a place where I know almost everyone in the same high school to a university where I don't even know a tiny fraction of my class.
I went to the very first orientation session in early June so I could get all the classes I wanted by registering early. Orientation seemed way too long, but it really did help me in getting to know my way around campus. I'm far from knowing where everything is, but it will be hard to get lost when I go back in late August.
I got all the classes I wanted and a few days ago I made an Excel spreadsheet so I could see what my week will look like on a day-to-day basis.
Here it is:
